23rd February 2019 – Workshop with John Skinner on Figures using loose brush strokes
Born in London in 1959, John Skinner started painting in earnest in his twenties, whilst living in Newcastle. With no formal training, save a miserable Art ‘O’ level failure, John developed a distinct technique and an unorthodox approach to watercolours. manifesting itself in the jewelled quality that we see in his work today. It was the Summer of 1995, when John took a short holiday in Devon and was so beguiled by the beauty of the region that he decided to stay.
4th April 2019– Demo with Ursula Andrejczuk on Portrait painting techniques
Ursula paints many of her pictures outdoors so her studio is quite compact and has to fit into her backpack. She takes it to her favourite spots, like Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve or the heathland and woods above Dawlish and Dartmoor with its beautiful rivers. Ursula paints mostly from observation, landscapes, seascapes and portraiture.
Her favourite subject is the human figure and she enjoys narrative in her work, often portraying people on the verge of change, leaving the viewer to interpret the story.
